Recommended symbols in construction drawing practice
On construction and civil engineering projects, graphical techniques are used to communicate the ideas of the design team. The development of a design from feasibility stage through to commencement of work on site requires the designers to incorporate more specific details to ensure that the project can be constructed accurately in accordance with the drawings.

To ensure that the graphical detailing can be understood and interpreted by a wide range of people involved in the project, standard graphical symbols are used for construction drawings in accordance with B S 1192 Part 3.

A range of the symbols from B S 1192 Part 3 can be found in the .
